Adjusted Operating Hours:

  • MRT-3: The last train from North Avenue Station in Quezon City will depart at 10:34 p.m., while the final trip from Taft Avenue Station in Pasay City will leave at 11 p.m.
  • LRT-1: The last train from Dr. Santos Avenue Station in Parañaque City will depart at 10:30 p.m., and the final trip from Fernando Poe Jr. Station in Quezon City will leave at 10:45 p.m.
  • LRT-2: The last train from Antipolo Station will depart at 9:30 p.m., and the final trip from Recto Station in Manila will leave at 10 p.m.

DOTr’s Position on Extended Hours:

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has declined proposals to extend train operations until midnight. Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Jeremy Regino explained that such an extension would reduce the time available for essential daily maintenance, which is crucial for ensuring the reliability and safety of the trains.

“Unfortunately, our trains need daily maintenance in order to ensure their reliability and safety,” Regino stated.

Commuter Considerations:

While the extended operating hours aim to accommodate the increased number of commuters during the holiday season, the DOTr emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance to prevent service disruptions and ensure passenger safety.

Commuters are advised to plan their travels accordingly, considering the adjusted schedules, to ensure a smooth and safe journey during the holiday period.

Commuters in Metro Manila face challenges due to the limited operating hours of MRT and LRT systems, particularly for late-night trips. Calls have been made to extend train services until midnight, especially for workers in sectors like BPOs and healthcare, who often need transportation beyond the current schedules. However, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has rejected these proposals, citing the necessity of daily maintenance to ensure safety and reliability. While the DOTr is adjusting train schedules to accommodate holiday rushes, concerns remain over the lack of late-night options. Alternatives like increasing train frequency and enhancing bus services are being explored, but the current restrictions continue to impact commuters’ convenience, especially during busy periods.
