The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has officially revoked the driver’s license of Angkas CEO George Royeca after he took full responsibility for a traffic obstruction incident in Cainta, Rizal, on February 4. The violation occurred when a convoy of Angkas motorcycle riders blocked an intersection, disrupting traffic flow.
LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II confirmed the decision, though Royeca retains the right to appeal.

Royeca Accepts Responsibility
Royeca expressed his willingness to comply with the LTO’s decision. In a statement, he reiterated his commitment to accountability, stating:
“Following the voluntary surrender of my license, we are prepared to face any consequences and adhere to due process.”
He further explained that taking full responsibility was a necessary step to protect the livelihoods of Angkas riders involved in the incident.
“It’s better that it’s my license that would be suspended so that our riders who committed the infraction could still continue their job for them to earn a living for their respective families,” Royeca added.
Ongoing Investigations and Preventive Measures
The LTO is also conducting an investigation into the Angkas riders who participated in the obstruction. Mendoza emphasized that district offices have been directed to remain vigilant to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“We want them to be proactive in watching their areas so that similar incidents like this will not happen in Rizal,” he said.
The agency’s response underscores a broader effort to enforce road discipline and ensure that public transportation providers comply with traffic regulations.
Long-Term Implications
The revocation of Royeca’s license raises questions about corporate responsibility in the ride-hailing industry. While his decision to take accountability aims to shield Angkas riders from immediate penalties, it also places increased scrutiny on how ride-hailing companies manage their drivers and operations.
As the investigation continues, the LTO’s actions signal stricter enforcement of traffic rules, with potential implications for other transportation service providers operating in the country.
