GSIS and MMDA Join Forces to Improve Metro Manila Traffic

On December 18, 2024, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) forged a partnership to enhance traffic management and road safety in Metro Manila.

The agreement was signed at the GSIS main office in Pasay City, with GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso and MMDA Chairman Romando Artes leading the event.

MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana also attended as a witness.

This collaboration will allow the MMDA to use GSIS properties for various projects aimed at improving transportation and safety.

The GSIS Julia Vargas site in Pasig City will continue hosting the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy, which educates riders on road discipline and safety.

It will also serve as a temporary workspace for MMDA personnel during office renovations to maintain uninterrupted services.

Meanwhile, the GSIS Tumana property in Marikina will be transformed into a hub to support MMDA’s traffic management efforts, including vehicle impounding and enforcement operations.

GSIS President Veloso highlighted how this partnership, which began in 2015 as a simple property arrangement, has grown into a prime example of inter-agency teamwork.

“What started as a basic agreement now demonstrates how government agencies can achieve more when working together,” Veloso said.

He added that the new agreement outlines a smarter approach to addressing urban challenges and improving public service.

“This is about finding innovative ways for the government to work efficiently and create a greater impact for the people,” he said.

Veloso also stressed that the collaboration reflects the Marcos administration’s vision of collective government action, where agencies pool their resources to deliver tangible results.

“When agencies unite their efforts, they become stronger and more effective,” he noted.

This partnership showcases a shared commitment to creating safer roads and better traffic systems for Metro Manila residents.

By maximizing the use of public assets and fostering collaboration, GSIS and MMDA aim to tackle pressing urban challenges while improving the daily experiences of commuters and drivers alike.
