DOTr Announces Completion Target for Greenways Project by 2027

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) aims to complete its Greenways Project, a series of elevated walkways, by 2027.

These walkways are designed to improve pedestrian mobility and reduce road congestion.

DOTr Undersecretary Jesus Ferdinand Ortega announced that the project will be implemented in key locations along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), including Balintawak, Cubao, Guadalupe, and Taft.

Project Goals and Locations

The Greenways Project aims to provide safer and more efficient routes for pedestrians.

By allowing pedestrians to move between transport hubs and buildings without crossing busy streets, the project seeks to ease traffic congestion.

The elevated walkways will eliminate pedestrian stoppages at intersections, improving overall traffic flow.

Improving Pedestrian Mobility

Ortega explained that the elevated walkways will enable seamless transfers between major transport systems, such as LRT-1, and nearby buildings.

Pedestrians will not have to descend to street level, making it easier and faster to navigate between different locations.

This feature is expected to significantly enhance pedestrian mobility in Metro Manila.

Project Continuation and Future Expansion

Ortega assured the public that the Greenways Project will continue as planned.

He expressed optimism that the project will serve as a model for future walkability projects in other urban areas.

If successful, the elevated walkways could be expanded to more areas to benefit a larger number of pedestrians.

Long-Term Impact

The completion of the Greenways Project is expected to have a positive long-term impact on traffic conditions in Metro Manila.

By providing dedicated pathways for pedestrians, the project will reduce road congestion and improve traffic flow.

The elevated walkways will also contribute to safer and more efficient urban mobility.
